Editable Mesh will allow you to create non-manifold geometry, whereas Editable Poly makes it more difficult for that to happen, which can explain why you can weld things with an editable permalinkembedsavegive gold[–]cowboysauce[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago(1 child)I just tried that and it didn't work. I'd suggest you go into your Max options and set the back-faces of polys to be a different tone from the front, will help stop this problem. :) permalinkembedsavegive goldaboutblogaboutsource codeadvertisejobshelpsite I mean inside the same editable poly. All the other single vertices welded fine. his comment is here The best you can do is fuse them and the surface modifier should work.
EDIT: Also, yeah, when I tried to bridge the edges I got this weird looking twisted glitch that looked at though the bridge was flipped over on itself permalinkembedsaveparentgive gold[–]ElectricEchoes 1 point2 Merge Vertices 3ds Max It simply won't weld the two vertexes. permalinkembedsavegive gold[–]davodeth 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago(0 children)Have you checked that they're not overlapping vertices?
I had to go back and track down tonnes of vertexes that weren't fused and were messing up the surface modifier. permalinkembedsaveparentgive gold[–]CudaCore[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago(8 children)Even if I set the threshold at something ridiculously high they wont weld. kabojnk08-08-2005, 01:00 AMCan you show me what the rest of the orthographic view looks like? When I select the loop for the bottom trunk, it selects all the edges along the top of the trunk which causes a jumbled mess of edges when I bridge them.
mostly it worked but sometimes i got 2 vertices that wont weld together, even when i rause the value in the weld dialog up to 10000.... And the 2 Vertices belong to the same object so it is not possible to use the "Boolean" Feature of 3ds max because the objects would have to different to use I don't think you can merge edges together, other than bridge which creates a new polygon in between. Here's a pic for you, to visualize what I'm talking about:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/redbull/question.jpg What I'm a doing wrong?
